IVA Not Included

One of the things I find a bit easier in Spain than in Canada, is that stores include IVA (sales tax) totaled with the prices that are shown along with goods. Or so it seemed.

In early November, 2005, .es domains became a lot easier for normal people to register.

So I headed over to Acens, a Spanish hosting and domain provider, and bought a few domains at 13.95 (well above prices for .net, .com, and most other country level domains).

When the bill came in, sure enough the prices did not include IVA. It even says so in the footer of the website.

I was unable to find anything stated anwhere on what the official stand on this practise is - i.e. must stores display by law the IVA with the price or not - but given the standard that most brick and mortar stores do, I'm left with a bad taste in my mouth over this. The issue is really compounded by the fact that with an online shop, you can't really ask the teller at the time of purchase, and this lack of available service means that the buyer must really beware.

On top of that whole debaucle, another service that most webhosts outside of Spain (and some inside of Spain) offer for free is to be able to control where your domain points (a.k.a. the DNS vallues) from a control panel. Acens charges a 6 dollar fee for this. Absurd.
