Walking the Costa Blanca

A nice succint article was pulished in the Guardian about a walking tour in the Costa Blanca. While many people associate this area with sun and surf, there is a whole other side to be enjoyed.

Inland from the beaches, the terrain of the Costa Blanca goes from hilly to mountainous and at times quite rugged. This means that sports like hiking, walking, mountain climbing and biking are quite popular around here, and it is one aspect of life I have yet to fully dive in to.

Via Niumba I came across Not a sun lounger in sight..., a short little description of one persons' walking trip in the norther Costa Blanca.

It is an area that I know well enough, as some friends live in Benisau and we regularily go for long walks in the area before having lunch at their house.

This sort of thing is a very typical Spanish way to pass the day - some time in the countryside followed by a hearty lunch, a big fire, and usually a good siesta! Sometimes we'll head off to a new area, hike around and then hit a local restaurant, where they always serve up some local dishes.

Anyways, providing these types of trips and vacations are a great way to make a living here in the Costa Blanca, and many Brits and other Europeans have moved down here and opened hostels and full service tour operations to cater for the demand.
